Nyan Heroes, the popular team-based hero shooter featuring cats piloting giant mechs, has unveiled its Open Pre-Alpha Playtest 3, available from September 4 to September 25 on the Epic Games Store featuring the new Payload mode, enhanced guardian abilities, and the exciting embark mechanic.
The standout feature of Playtest 3 is the introduction of the Payload game mode. Players will engage in strategic battles as two teams of six either defend or attack a payload as it moves through three checkpoints on the new Arctic map, Erebus. Matches will alternate between Payload and the returning Stronghold mode, where teams fight to capture key objectives.
Players must use the terrain, including high and low ground, guardian abilities, and areas accessible only in Nyan form to gain the upper hand. The game also introduces Scout and Mage guardians, adding versatility to team compositions.
Expanded Customization and New Mechanics
Customization has taken a leap forward with “Augments,” which allow players to modify their guardians’ passive abilities. This includes enhancements to health, armor, speed, and even unique modifiers like explosive effects. The new “embark” mechanic allows cat pilots to mount mechs and fight alongside their team, providing a fresh gameplay element.
“Our team has worked tirelessly to deliver the next chapter of Nyan action to life,” said Max Fu, Creative Director and CEO of 9 Lives Interactive.
Ayana, the Scout guardian’s pilot, specializes in exploration and enemy detection. In contrast, Yuri, piloting the Mage guardian, casts powerful spells and curses. Players can experiment with these new characters, further diversifying gameplay strategies.
In the latest playtest, players will find character emotes, a long-requested community feature. Character reward add-ons will also be available at the end of matches, offering passive bonuses and unique in-game items.
