Epic Games appears to be on the verge of incinerating the most unusual crossovers. It is between Fortnite and the upcoming thriller/mystery IT Chapter Two. The bubble has already burst for a possible Fortnite x IT event.
While the concept of adding scary features of the film to the battle royale game may be concerning for some, especially considering the number of children that play the game daily, one cannot deny the apparent clues that appear to be piling up. The developers of the game have collaborated with the creators of the John Wick franchise before for a crossover event- which by the way, is an R-rated film. So, this is not a wholly impossible and unexpected choice for them to make.
Fortnite x IT Leaks on August 28
Back on August 28, HYPEX and FortTory leaked a bunch of data mines. These suggested potential Fortnite x IT crossover features in the files. Initially, the possibility of a crossover did not convince a lot of people despite the leaks.
One was a balloon that looked incredibly similar to Pennywise’s balloon, a clown who is the main villain in the movies. They also discovered several audio clips that sounded very much like this character. Still, a lot of people doubted this information.
Fans Discover Balloon On September 4
On September 4, Fortnite players made a discovery that happens to be one of the most significant clues. They went to Pleasant Park and spotted what appeared to be Pennywise’s balloon.
People who have been consistently playing the free-for-all game for a long period probably already know that Fortnite developers update the game’s map with new features continuously. Several fans dubbed this as the first teaser to the Fortnite x IT event. At least, that is what the feature seemed to hint at the time.
Confirmation on September 4?
Epic Games did not yet give an official word regarding these events. They did not state whether the crossover was a genuine possibility or not. At the time, fans only had a vague endorsement of this idea.
On the day fans discovered the balloon in-game, the official Twitter account of IT Chapter 2 retweeted an article that linked the movie to the game. While it was not an official announcement, it was clearly hinting at something.
If a proper event takes place, we would not be surprised to find an IT-themed zone in the game. It could be similar to John Wick’s house feature or the Borderlands’ Pandora Rift Zone.
Balloon disappears on September 9
While all these ideas sound incredible and seemed somewhat possible following the balloon’s discovery, people who were excited and anticipating the event had to deal with a massive letdown on September 9. It is when the balloon in Pleasant Park disappears. However, the sidewalk still appears to be the same as it was with the balloon there and the house destroyed.
The thriller film IT Chapter Two inspired by Stephen Hawking’s novel released on September 6. Keeping in mind all the other themed events that took place in the past, we typically witness these kinds of crossovers end very soon. Unfortunately, all these incidents may not have been hinting towards a major event at all. Epic Games was probably adding IT-inspired features to its map as a nod to the franchise.
