Rockstar Games has finally unveiled its plans for the development of GTA 6, the next edition of the action-adventure game. The U.S.-based gaming company made the announcement through a tweet from its official Twitter account.
“We’re pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway,” the tweet said.
There had been many speculations regarding the launch of GTA’s upcoming project. However, many of them turned out to be rumors. With the official announcement of GTA 6, the game has already made it to the Twitter trends.
“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we’ve previously delivered,” Rockstar Games stated in their tweet.
However, the company has not commented on the launch dates yet. It has neither given out the new features nor spoke of added twists in the game. Although gamers worldwide are excited about the game, many predict the launch date to be in 22-23 months after the announcement. If this happens, GTA 6’s launch is expected to be somewhere around March 2023.
Commenting on the long gap that the company typically takes after such an announcement, many fans have criticized the company for the long wait. “This same language was used in June 2012 in regards to GTA V,” one such fan tweeted, stating the more than 14 months taken for their previous game launches.
When Rockstar Games released its previous edition in 2013, it added a massive amount of sales. More than 230 million copies of the Grand Theft Auto series have been sold overall.
Gamers expect more information on the game, which the company will share in the coming weeks. In its announcement tweet, the company said, “We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready,” after which it thanked for the support that its users have given.
Over the years, the GTA series has managed to build a devoted community of fans, many of whom rigorously follow all GTA games on multiplayer versions. The announcement has brought excitement to the community, making them expressive on Twitter.
Since it is a game that mostly takes inspiration from realistic geographical worlds, it will be interesting to see what the gaming company adds to the new edition.
