Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes are in development, with the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows showcasing the variety the franchise will offer. This announcement promises to return beloved characters and settings from the franchise’s extensive history.
Assassin’s Creed, known for its successful titles like Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Black Flag, has become a cornerstone for Ubisoft since its debut in 2007.
In a recent interview, Guillemot revealed that fans can look forward to “some remakes” of older Assassin’s Creed games in the coming years.
He emphasized that the “worlds” in these classic titles remain “extremely rich.” Ubisoft aims to “modernize” these games while revisiting their original charm. This strategy will allow players to experience a mix of large-scale adventures like Valhalla and titles closer to the series’ roots, such as Mirage. Guillemot highlighted that the future of the game will offer “plenty of experience variety.”
Assassin’s Creed has Variety in Gameplay
Ubisoft’s new approach focuses on providing diverse experiences. Guillemot mentioned that the developer intends to release games “more regularly” but aims to avoid repeating “the same experience every year.” This plan will become clearer with the release of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, which will differ significantly from the Hexe episode. Guillemot added, “We’re going to surprise people, I think.”
With the confirmed remakes, iconic characters like Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway could return to modernized versions of their classic adventures. Ubisoft’s strategy may also see a return to the routine yearly release schedule from 2009 to 2015, with remakes interspersed among new titles.
While Ubisoft finalizes its remake plans, fans can look forward to the next game in the series, Shadows, set for release on November 15. The recent Ubisoft Forward event showcased new gameplay features, offering an extended look at the feudal Japan setting. The anticipation for the first remake’s chosen era adds to the excitement.
