LoL legend Faker is quite popular for his dedication to the game. However, what is surprising is that the world champion thinks fully immersing yourself in the game is a bad idea. Regardless of how much you like it.
If you are an esports fan, you probably get to hear his name a lot. He is one of the greatest players to ever touch the game. With a record of lifting the Summoner’s Cup three times, his achievements has got him multi-million dollar deals to leave Korea and SK Telecom T1.
Moderation Is Key
Faker understands the importance of moderation. It is just as essential in esports and gaming. The LoL superstar may be one of the best, but even he needs a break every now and then.
According to him, taking a break from practice, and getting indulged in various other activities apart from games can actually help you improve as a gamer.
By taking away time to reset, you approach the trials and challenges the game has in store for you in a new way. You can get through the barriers that you were stuck at before.
“I think as a pro player, practicing and competing in games every single day is not that great of an idea,” he reveals in a Fomos interview, just as he comes back for the 2020 LCK season, “It is a bad idea. That is why I try to participate in lots of activities.”
He believes these activities could help him “broaden his horizons.” However, he does add at the end that he focuses on other things as long as they are not a distractraction from his allocated practice time. This ultimately helps him stay focused during the tournament.
Faker’s 2020 Approach
Faker is making a comeback to the Internationals after watching FunPlus Phoenix, Invictus Gaming and Samsung Galaxy win the title the last three years. His balanced approach to gaming in 2020 looks like it is somewhat working.
SK T1 has started with a 1-1 in LCK. They won 2-1 against Damwon Gaming in the opener. And lost in a neck-to-neck three-game series against Hanwha Life Esports.
While T1’s playing has been average so far, Faker is back in his best form. He was given the title of the most valuable team player in three out of the four wins by the team in 2020 Spring.
He admitted that he expected the whole team would take some time off. Especially after the numerous team changes during T1’s off-season.
“I expect this year will be totally different from last year. Especially because there were a lot of team member changes, and swaps in the meta too,”
As for the future, here is what he had to say, “Although we defeated DWG this time, we still have so many games left. We have to compete against a lot of other strong teams in the season before the end too. For me, and T1, I cannot expect what is going to happen in the future.”
