League of Legends (LoL) has launched its Hall of Legends to honor its greatest players, and the first inductee is the legendary Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok with a special in-game event including a tribute from Mercedes-Benz, drawing significant attention in the esports community. This prestigious recognition celebrates Faker’s remarkable achievements in the esports world.

Faker, known as “The Unkillable Demon King,” has dominated the LoL esports scene for 12 years. His impressive career includes 10 LCK titles, two Mid-Season Invitational titles, and four World Championship titles. These accolades have earned him a place in the Hall of Legends, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest players in esports history.

“Faker is truly the most iconic and influential figure in the League of Legends and esports history. His name is synonymous with excellence in LoL Esports, and he has rightfully earned his place as our first Hall of Legends inductee,” said John Needham, president of esports at Riot Games.

In-Game Celebrations

Meanwhile, to commemorate this milestone, an in-game event was introduced to celebrate Faker’s achievements. Players can purchase custom cosmetic items themed around their careers as part of the event. The Faker-themed bundle will be available in four different purchase options: the Hall of Legends Pass, Risen, Immortalized, and Signature.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz will honor Faker with a unique art piece blending reality and LoL, highlighting his significant moments. Faker will also receive a custom Mercedes-AMG SL 63. More details about the in-game event and the Mercedes-Benz award will be shared soon.

The Hall of Legends event pass will take players through Faker’s career, showcasing pivotal moments and achievements. An independent voting panel of esports industry veterans and experts from various regions selects the inductee for the Hall of Legends.

Community Reaction

While many fans celebrate Faker’s induction, the $500 price tag for the content bundle has sparked controversy. Some fans feel Riot Games is exploiting their love for Faker to make money. The bundle offers multiple buying options, with the highest tier costing $500 and the lowest-priced skin at $40.

The LoL community has voiced their dissatisfaction on Reddit, with users expressing frustration over the high costs. Some players have even boycotted the bundle, feeling that the event should honor Faker without such steep prices. Faker’s induction into the Hall of Legends marks a significant milestone for LoL esports, but the high costs of celebratory items have overshadowed the event for some fans.
