Ubisoft is set to release Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the latest mainline installment in the long-standing open-world action-adventure game series, on October 12. The formal announcement came during the PlayStation Showcase, following a leak by Japanese merchants prior to the event.
The release date for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, initially scheduled for August, has been postponed. As the gameplay reveals, the game, which follows Assassin’s Creed Vallhala as the next mainline entry, returns to its roots.
The first Assassin’s Creed game was launched in 2007, and there have been twelve main titles in the series, the most recent of which was Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in 2020. The main Assassin’s Creed games are open-world action-adventure titles played from a third-person perspective.
The gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Mirage revolves around combat, stealth, and exploration, with parkour as a key element of movement. The games feature a variety of main and side missions, including competitive and cooperative multiplayer game modes.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the thirteenth major installment in the franchise and the sequel to 2020’s Valhalla, was initially unveiled at the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward event and received praise for its return to the series’ original action-adventure roots.
The new teaser for Assassin’s Creed Mirage showcases Basim utilizing their weapons and skills to locate and eliminate targets while being guided by other Hidden Ones. The game is set in Baghdad, two decades prior to the events of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, with players taking on the role of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character introduced in Valhalla.
Basim is depicted running in the iconic Assassin’s Creed fashion across Baghdad rooftops and city walls in the trailer. Ubisoft describes this character as one of the most agile and cunning assassins in the franchise’s history. Bassim will utilize stealthy and lethal assassination methods to eliminate targets.
Mirage is unequivocally a classic Assassin’s Creed title
In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the character will possess new abilities, such as Assassin’s Focus, allowing them to track and eliminate multiple enemies. The game also features a dynamic day-night cycle and offers an immersive exploration of ninth-century Baghdad.
We also get a glimpse of a few people Basim will meet along the way who will aid him in completing his mission. Fuladh stands out as the most notable new member.
Within the Hidden Ones, Fuladh assumes the roles of Eagle-Master and Rafiq. He is another crucial figure in Basim’s quest to become a Hidden One, along with Master Roshan, whose voice guides Basim throughout this clip. The knowledge of Fuladh, who is calm, courteous, and direct, occasionally intimidates the novices but conceals an excellent sense of humor.
Ubisoft describes Assassin’s Creed Mirage as a ‘special tribute’ to the original Assassin’s Creed and a heartfelt homage to the entire series.
The game is being developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, the studio behind the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Wrath of the Druid Expansion. The game will feature a narrative-driven action-adventure feel and a modern interpretation of parkour, stealth, and assassination gameplay.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released on October 12, 2023. It will be available for PC via the Epic Game Store and Ubisoft Store, as well as on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Amazon Luna.
