In the gaming world, the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade, developed by Korean Game studio Shift Up, has stirred excitement and curiosity. Set to launch on April 26, 2024, the action-packed title is drawing attention for its unique elements, including an adults-only age rating in Korea.
Stellar Blade, initially known as Project Eve in its 2019 announcement, has evolved into an action game inspired by Nier Automata, Bayonetta, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The protagonist, Eve, a captivating anime-inspired character reminiscent of 2B and Bayonetta, takes center stage in this Korean Game. The game director, Hyung-Tae Kim, highlighted the team’s deliberate focus on Eve’s back, as it constitutes the majority of the player’s in-game perspective.
Adult Rating Insight
The Korean age rating, not surprisingly, aligns with the game’s distinct characteristics. Reports suggest that, under certain costumes, Eve may appear to be naked.
Additionally, the gameplay involves intense violence, including mutilation scenes with copious amounts of blood. As the PEGI and ESRB ratings are yet to be unveiled, expectations are high that Western ratings will echo those in Korea.
Originally slated for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Stellar Blade made a splash at a September 2021 State of Play presentation, ultimately securing its place as a PS5 exclusive.
After the official title reveal in 2023, the game encountered delays, missing its initial 2023 release window. However, the latest glimpse came during January’s State of Play in 2024.
In the realm of console gaming, Stellar Blade PS5 exclusive stands out, not only for its captivating gameplay but also for the controversies surrounding its age rating in Korea. The anticipation builds as gamers worldwide await the PEGI and ESRB ratings to gauge the game’s suitability for diverse audiences.
