How Many People Play Fortnite (Brief History)

According to Statista, there were around 30 million Fortnite players in December 2017. Epic Games released the count of Fornite players when it reached a peak in August 2018 of 78.3 million for the month.

For a year, Epic went full ninja and didn’t comment about the player base of Fornite. Then in March 2019, Epic Games mentioned that they had around 250 million total players. So if we do some maths, about 170 million players joined Fortnite in between August 2018 & March 2019.

Here’s a poll by Tfue:

Recent Announcement from Epic Games About Fornite Player Base

On May 6, 2020, the official Twitter page of Fortnite announced that the game has over 350 million registered players. Furthermore, Fornite claimed that in April 2020, players spent over 3.2 billion hours in-game.

It’s worth noting that the stats don’t exclude spam or inactive accounts. But reaching a milestone of 350 million is something phenomenal.

Note that this stat doesn’t answer the ultimate question of how many people are playing Fornite right now. But don’t worry, we have got your back!

How Many People Are Playing Fornite Right Now?

Before we take the honor of answering the long-awaited question, we need to clear some things first. Apart from two events, Fornite has never released the numbers of concurrent players. Concurrent players mean that the number of players that were all online at once.

Here is another cool stat showing the popularity of the game.

It’s worth noting that the count of 78.3 million players back in August 2018 wasn’t the number of concurrent players. It was just the highest number of players active in a single month.

Before predicting the actual concurrent number of how many people play Fortnite. Let’s see the stats of recent popular events of Fornite.

  • Over 12.3 million concurrent players participated live in Travis Scott’s Astronomical event.
  • Around 10.3 million concurrent players logged into the in-game live Marshmello concert.

So if we look at the stats above and take an educated guess, there are around 4-8 million concurrent players of Fornite. As special events attract more traffic, we can firmly say that an average day on Fornite won’t exceed more than 8 million concurrent players.

Answer to the question of how many people play Fornite daily is around 4-8 million. Note that it’s just an educated guess that we were able to derive from the recent events of Fortnite.
