Gen.G claimed the League of Legends championship at MSI 2025, toppling rival T1 in a nail-biting 3-2 series that showcased elite gameplay, team synergy, and the evolution of the Fearless Draft format.

With this win, Gen.G repeated its 2024 success, securing back-to-back Mid-Season Invitational titles. Mid laner Chovy earned MVP honors for his clutch performances and sharp decision-making under pressure.

It was at the Vancouver Pacific Coliseum that Gen.G faced off against T1 in the showdown of MSI 2025. Fans watched as both teams delivered a series of high-octane matches. Gen.G, which had gone undefeated during the League of Legends Champions Korea’s (LCK) first two rounds, started strong in the upper bracket. They beat G2 Esports 3-1 and barely edged out AnyOne Legend 3-2 before meeting T1.

In the upper bracket final, Gen.G narrowly overcame T1 after five games. That win sent them directly to the grand final, while T1 had to fight their way through the lower bracket by defeating AnyOne Legend. The rematch in the grand final was between Gen.G and T1 again, and this time, everything was on the line.

The Battle: Momentum Meets Mastery

Game one saw T1 take early control, dominating objectives and team fights. But Gen.G, known for its mental resilience, struck back in game two. Chovy’s Ryze and top laner Kiin’s Scion stabilized the team. Although T1 overwhelmed them again in the third game, Gen.G refused to break.

The fourth set was where the tide turned. Gen. G’s star ADC Ruler and Chovy played with calm precision, outmaneuvering T1 with perfect teamfight execution. In game five, Gen.G sealed the title after outplaying T1 near the Dragon pit and capitalizing on a desperate late-game push.

Chovy, Gen.G’s reliable mid laner, dominated the mid lane throughout MSI 2025. Whether on Viktor, Ryze, or Azir, he dictated tempo and stayed cool during high-stakes moments. OPPO awarded him the tournament MVP for his performance, cementing his legacy in League of Legends history.

Meanwhile, Gen.G’s other players, Canyon in jungle, Kiin on top lane, and Ruler in bot, delivered top-tier performances under pressure. The synergy between them under the new Fearless Draft system provided a strategic edge that T1 couldn’t match consistently.

Fearless Draft Adds Depth to MSI 2025

Riot Games rolled out the Fearless Draft system during the 2025 season, requiring teams to pick new champions in every game. This change forced deeper preparation and strategy. Gen.G adapted quickly, showcasing vast champion pools and creativity. Their mastery of this system helped them win all three bracket matches, with two going to full five-game sets.

Out of 19 total matches at MSI 2025, nine went the distance, proof of the new draft format’s intensity and unpredictability. Gen.G remained undefeated in the upper bracket, never losing two games in a row. Their run was a testament to preparation, depth, and focus.

The title win brings Gen.G $500,000 of the $2 million prize pool. It guarantees them a near-certain entry into the League of Legends World Championship 2025. Starting in 2024, MSI champions gain auto-qualification if they finish top 4 in regional playoffs. Since Gen.G already boasts an 18-0 record in LCK Rounds 1–2, a few more wins in Round 3 (starting July 23) should seal their Worlds spot.

Additionally, Gen.G becomes only the third team in League of Legends history to win MSI twice in a row, joining SKT and RNG. Their win at MSI 2025 underlines their dominance and signals a power shift in global LoL esports.

Regional gaps narrowed as teams from League of Legends Americas (LTA) and League of Legends Asia Pacific (LCP), such as FlyQuest and CTBC Flying Oyster, challenged established giants. FlyQuest shocked many by eliminating European powerhouse G2 Esports 3-0, while CTBC Flying Oyster pushed T1 to the limit in a five-game thriller.

Such performances highlight how the new region mergers and formats are revitalizing the competitive League of Legends. Gen. G’s win, meanwhile, reinforces that true champions adapt and evolve, and do so faster than the rest.
