There is a reason why DOTA 2 is so competitive and engaging. One of the best parts about the game is that it makes everyone fall in love with it. Not only does it promises action-packed gaming, but it also puts to test the very foundation of gaming – a players’ love for the game. Yes, sometimes it can be that hard to continue playing the game. One will have second thoughts about the game and will want to quit the game. But still, they will find themselves reaching out for their console, logging in to the beautiful screen of DOTA 2 just to play the game again.

Hard-core competitive gaming is tough and DOTA 2 is not different. Esports is a very serious profession now and there are thousands of players who are earning their bread and butter just by playing the game. Naturally, it is only fair that the game will require a high skill level to continue at that level.

But it is not only about playing professionally. One can play the game casually at their leisure and still enjoy it anyway. This shows us the various level of understanding the game possesses. Many people will tell that DOTA 2 is perhaps the toughest MOBA game out there. One may not agree with them, however, it is not completely unreasonable either.

What makes DOTA 2 so tough?

The most important aspect of playing is to enjoy the moment. But there is no harm to add a bit of competition especially when it is about one’s skills as a gamer. The fundamental of creating a professional sport out of gaming is to carry out this competitiveness on the big stage. But one might argue that this is common for every esports game out there.

There is no denying the fact that there are countless other games to indulge in. Many even wouldn’t know about DOTA 2. But the best part of playing DOTA 2 is that game is tough and players need to prove themselves every time they play.

DOTA 2, as a game has many underlying layers that one can explore differently. For someone who is looking for a casual game night, win or lose might not be important. But for someone who is practicing day and night just to improve their skill, the game can be just like any school test. What’s tougher is that the game is all about the team.

It’s all about the team game

DOTA 2 is not like an ordinary PVP or battle royal where everyone is on their own. It is a full-fledged 5V5 team game. Unlike a solo battle where one’s action can harm only them, DOTA 2 is a game of teaming up and winning. Here an individual’s actions and decision-making ability can affect the whole game and ruin it for others too. If a player can follow the team call, then it probably will affect the match and slim their chance of winning. At a competitive level, even a LAN match in gaming cafes gets intense. The heat of competition rises to such instances that fights and arguments can also break out from time to time. But this all shows how passionate the players are about playing the game and winning it. Having good team bonding can overcome any obstacle both in-game and out of it.

There’s more to the game than fighting

The objective of the game can seem so simple to a novice eye. Players need to destroy the opponent Ancient and the game is over. But to do so there are multiple obstacles that they need to clear and prove themselves. The game is so well written that with each new update, every single detail will contribute to some playing aspect. Valve has done a very good job in segregating the matchmaking according to skill bracket. However, even in low MMR games, there is intense pressure and competition as no one just wants to lose. People may spend more time farming in the match preparing for the big team fight but all it might take to win is push towers and avoid team fight on the contrary. This is how the game of DOTA 2 is different and testing.

In a game of DOTA 2 choices are important

At every aspect of DOTA 2, the game offers multiple choices for the players. From providing 121 hero choices to in-game items, there are many things in the game that needs choosing from. It is these choices that will affect the course of the game, often the winners too. Choosing the correct hero is very important in DOTA 2. Unlike FPS games or other competitive battle royals, here hero choice actually matters a lot.

Each hero is blessed with its own unique abilities and skillset. There will always be a role to play for each hero in the game. A player just needs to figure out what role they want to play and how. Picking the right hero while drafting can often result in favorable team fight situations.

Many players try to play a variety of heroes. But the key to success is always to master few heroes which one can play the best. Playing each hero is different in DOTA 2 as different heroes need a different set of skills and talent. There are some heroes which are easier to master than others. That is why new players should always try to start with easy heroes. As the game is unique, it also creates unique roles in a match which is a team only one player can fulfill. Thus a team will have a player of each role who can play their part in the game.

Leadership is the key

Although DOTA2 is a team game, a good leader is always important in DOTA 2. This is because, at a professional level, a leader is the one to draft heroes for the entire team. Not only the hero choices but in-game calls and decision-making is very important on the leader’s part. If a leader is not confident about a team fight, then the feelings are transferred to individual team members. Having shaky leadership can cost the team the match. On the contrary, a strong leader will reflect character in-game and motivate his team to a good fight.

The weakest link is actually the strongest force

A team’s weakest player is usually targeted more often than others. The general idea is to get as many kills as possible within a short duration of time on the weakest player. This can be however used to one’s own advantage if maneuvered cleverly. If the weakest player can pull out the bravest of play, the match is there for the taking. Both teams will have a weak link, but the one utilizing the weak leak to its full advantage will win.

There is so much more to talk about when it comes to DOTA 2. There can be n number of reasons to despise the game> However there will always be one reason more to love it. The intense competition about winning a match and the continuous struggle to prove one’s worth as a player is very real. DOTA 2 is something more than just a game. It can be the toughest MOBA game, but it is also the dearest one, at least to many.
