Heartworm, a supernatural indie horror game delivering a gripping psychological thriller with retro-inspired survival horror elements, is set to immerse players in a gripping tale of loss and mystery, launching for PC in Spring 2025.

The indie horror game developed by solo creator Vincent Adinolfi and published by DreadXP, this title blends retro survival horror with modern mechanics. Players will navigate a ‘90s-inspired world, using a camera as their sole means of defense while unraveling dark secrets.

In the game, Protagonist Sam struggles with the devastating loss of her grandfather. Desperate for closure, she stumbles upon an eerie online forum that hints at a supernatural connection. Following cryptic clues, she ventures into an abandoned house in the mountains, hoping to reach the other side. The game’s chilling atmosphere and thought-provoking narrative promise a unique take on the survival horror genre.

Retro Aesthetics Meet Modern Controls in Heartworm

Drawing inspiration from Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Heartworm integrates fixed-camera perspectives with over-the-shoulder gameplay. Players can opt for classic tank controls or a modernized scheme. Additionally, optional pixelation and late ’90s graphical effects enhance the nostalgic experience while catering to contemporary preferences.

The game offers four to six hours of gripping exploration, puzzle-solving, and limited combat. A camera is the primary tool, revealing hidden details and warding off sinister forces. The haunting original soundtrack heightens the eerie experience, ensuring an unforgettable journey. Multiple endings encourage replayability, inviting players to uncover every secret.

Vincent Adinolfi, an indie game developer from Connecticut, has long been captivated by surreal horror storytelling. Since 2019, he has been crafting deeply atmospheric and unsettling experiences. With Heartworm, his vision takes shape as an emotionally charged adventure into grief and the unknown.

A demo is currently available on Steam, allowing players to experience a preview of the spine-chilling gameplay before its full release. Prepare to enter a world where the past lingers and the line between reality and the afterlife blurs. Heartworm is ready to leave a lasting impression when it launches in Spring 2025.
