A psychological horror game rooted in real UFO abduction testimonies hits Steam this March, and Who Are You!? arrives as a gripping episodic horror release as an indie horror game debut of 2026, blending sci-fi horror with genuine family grief in ways the genre rarely attempts.

Mark your calendars for March 27, 2026! Episode 1 will be available on PC for just $7.99, and when you buy it, you’ll have access to all three episodes at no extra charge. Plus, the game will be ready to play on Steam Deck right at launch.

Instead of just wielding a shotgun like in most horror games, Who Are You!? immerses you in the experience of grief. It’s a chilling journey into the dark corners of your own mind.

Players inhabit Ray Roswell, a man whose wife, Amanda, disappeared under suspected UFO abduction circumstances back in the 1960s. Two decades later, his daughter vanishes, snatched by a figure wearing an alien mask. Ray’s desperate search drives the plot. His fractured mind drives the horror.

Producer Diego Lezcano, the creative force behind Argentina’s Haunting Humans Studio, describes this psychological horror game with unusual directness.

“This is the story of Ray Roswell, the disappearance of his wife Amanda back in the 60s, and how the family goes through that situation. It’s not about: ‘okay, there’s a lot of aliens, there’s a scary face, there’s a huge scream.'”

Consequently, the horror arrives not from creatures but from the manipulation of memory, space, and perception. Environments subtly rearrange. Sounds blur between real and hallucinatory. The home Ray stands in may not be the home he remembers. This sci-fi horror experience unsettles through doubt rather than spectacle.

Real Voices. Anonymous. Devastating

What distinguishes this indie horror game from other titles that focus on UFO abductions is its unique source material.

Haunting Humans Studio ran an anonymous Google form to collect real alien encounter experiences from people worldwide. Those testimonies, not fictional movie scripts, directly shaped the narrative.

“We wanted to honor all these different stories and all these different feelings and situations people were having,” Lezcano said.

The studio also partnered with Andrea Simondini of the International Coalition for Extraterrestrial Research and hired a psychologist advisor to verify how trauma and grief manifest under extreme circumstances. The result is an episodic horror experience with documentary-level credibility.

“We have a private Google form where people can, in an anonymous way, express themselves on how they felt when this happened,” Lezcano added.

Players who know about real UFO cases will immediately recognize the familiar patterns: instances of missing time, strange encounters in bedrooms, and experiences that span generations.

Set against the backdrop of the peak abduction wave era from the 1960s to the 1980s, the story comes alive with an analog aesthetic, featuring flickering CRT screens, tape recorders, and paper files. Each clue feels both fragile and urgent, drawing players deeper into the mystery.

How It Actually Plays

This psychological horror game, made with Unreal Engine 5, looks amazing for its $7.99 price. It’s a strong start for a debut studio in the indie horror scene.

Gamers play in a first-person view, exploring environments filled with details that tell a story, like family photos, everyday items, and UFO research materials. These elements reveal the backstory without the need for cutscenes. The main gameplay focuses on exploring the world, solving puzzles, and connecting with Ray’s fragmented memories.

Players face real challenges with enemy AI, health systems, and save points. However, this isn’t a game about fighting. It builds tension through its atmosphere and sound design. As you play, Ray’s reality constantly shifts, so pay close attention to the sci-fi horror puzzles.

The game is released in episodes. Episode 1 throws players right into the action, while Episodes 2 and 3 come for free and take you deeper into the mystery.

Why This Could Break Through

Interest in UFO abduction stories is at an all-time high, thanks to recent US congressional hearings and a surge of documentaries. At the same time, the psychological horror game genre thrives, with games like Hellblade, Soma, and Observation showing that many players enjoy mind-bending horror.

Who Are You!? enters this exciting market, where players often doubt AI-created content. Haunting Humans Studio makes a clear choice: they use no AI in their production. Every piece of art, audio, and code is made by humans.

This indie sci-fi horror game also brings a unique South American perspective to Steam. Lezcano addressed this gap directly.

“Not everyone knows about the Argentinian cases or the South American cases in general. We wanted to create something that revolves around many things — and not just one specific case.”

Before launch, Who Are You!? earned a “Best Horror Game” nomination at Argentina’s EVA Awards 2025 and a spot in IndieDB’s “Top 100 Indie of the Year” list, strong pre-release recognition for any debut studio.

The Bottom Line for Gamers

Haunting Humans Studio’s new three-part horror game series, Who Are You!?, is available this spring on Steam. It supports Steam Deck and offers localization in over 12 languages, making it accessible to players worldwide.

If you enjoy sci-fi horror and appreciate original stories rather than the same old ideas, this game stands out as one of the best this year.

This psychological horror game promises not only to scare you but also to leave a lasting impression.
