The Midnight Walkers, a zombie survival extraction shooter from WeMade Max’s One Way Ticket Studio, enters Steam Early Access on November 21 with co-op gameplay at its core and a detailed developer roadmap shaping its future.
The Midnight Walkers introduces a tense balance of risk and reward as players scavenge inside Liberty Grand Center. Teams of up to three, or daring solo adventurers, must loot supplies, fight zombies, and escape before rivals cut them down.
Because every death means losing gear, each raid carries real stakes. This gripping yet straightforward loop places the game alongside other successful extraction shooter titles. At the same time, the zombie survival twist gives it a distinct identity.
Director Ray Song confirmed that community feedback drives many design choices. Developers reworked zombie variations for greater unpredictability and improved the composite bow’s mechanics to deliver a sharper combat feel.
They also remodeled merchant NPCs into full 3D models, reduced their number for clarity, and added trading filters for convenience. With a full world map, character abstraction upgrades, and smoother animations, the studio positions the game to feel intuitive for both newcomers and veterans.
The Midnight Walkers, Unique Features Set for Steam Early Access
Players will notice unusual mechanics in the Steam Early Access build. A cigarette-smoking system allows teammates to heal together, creating tense moments in close quarters. Meanwhile, mission-based progression tied to merchant NPCs adds a social layer, encouraging repeated interactions beyond combat. These systems make the game stand apart from other extraction shooters, where survival usually begins and ends with bullets.
The roadmap emphasizes co-op gameplay. The team plans a ping system, party voice chat, and expressive emotes. They also promise a reworked crafting system, more visual polish, and themed levels. Importantly, an item-recovery feature will restore gear if matches end due to errors, reducing frustration without removing the thrill of risk. Each level will feature unique Points of Interest, such as slot machines in a casino or hidden devices in a server room, ensuring every floor feels fresh and engaging.
Why The Midnight Walkers Matters Globally
Zombie survival games remain popular worldwide, but few manage to combine the tension of extraction shooters with accessible systems. By lowering barriers for new players while maintaining depth for veterans, WeMade Max aims to expand beyond niche communities.
The developer roadmap signals a long-term commitment, and global audiences at Gamescom have already seen promise in its polished demo. If the studio can maintain server stability and balance progression, The Midnight Walkers could become a standout in a crowded genre.
