Yogscast Games signs publishing agreements with Longshot Studio and Gamersky to release two new roguelike titles targeting first-half 2026 launch windows, reinforcing their commitment to indie game development.

The Bristol-based publisher continues its aggressive expansion into roguelike territory by announcing publishing deals for Infinity Sweeper and The Gate Must Stand. Moreover, the partnerships underscore the publisher’s strategy of supporting solo developers and micro studios through comprehensive marketing and lifecycle management.

Managing Director Simon Byron said that the company is doubling down on the roguelike genre despite concerns about market saturation. “People say there are too many rogue games. We say, you can never have enough,” Byron added.

The announcements further position Yogscast Games as a specialized roguelike publisher following successful titles including PlateUp!, which sold over 1.5 million Steam copies, and Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers, which generated approximately $975,000 in gross revenue.

Infinity Sweeper Reimagines Classic Minesweeper Mechanics

Serbia-based Longshot Studio brings Infinity Sweeper to Yogscast Games’ roster, offering a roguelite interpretation of classic Minesweeper gameplay. The title combines traditional tile-clearing mechanics with modern complications, including rogue objects, false information, and frantic boss battles that require split-second decisions.

Vidra, founder at Longshot Studio, described the partnership as strategically aligned.

“We wanted to create a game that brought back memories of yesteryear, yet give it a modern twist for indie players and roguelite purists,” Vidra said.

Furthermore, a playable demo launched on Steam immediately following the announcement, allowing prospective players to experience the retro-futuristic gameplay firsthand.

The development represents Longshot Studio’s inaugural commercial title, highlighting Yogscast Games’ commitment to first-time developers. Additionally, the game’s procedurally generated levels ensure endless replayability through strategic grid-based gameplay.

The Gate Must Stand Merges Tower Defense with Roguelike Elements

The Gate Must Stand marks the third co-publishing collaboration between Yogscast Games and Chinese media company Gamersky. The dark fantasy roguelike tower defense title tasks players with defending the city of Belrak through hero selection and strategic unit deployment.

Gamersky CEO Brandon Zhang highlighted the publisher’s genre expertise.

“Their passion for Roguelike titles is unmatched. They understand our community, and we’re excited to see how they bring The Gate Must Stand to market,” Zhang stated. The collaboration builds on previous successful partnerships, including Border Pioneer and Stray Path, released through their October 2024 co-publishing agreement.

The gameplay loop incorporates permadeath mechanics that unlock additional content on subsequent attempts. Players harness combined powers to launch devastating attacks while defeating demonic bosses to earn relics and ability enhancements.

Market Context and Roguelike Genre Growth

The publishing deals align with broader industry trends, showing a robust expansion of the roguelike market. The global roguelike game market reached $3.2 billion in 2024 and projects growth to $8.1 billion by 2033 at a 10.5 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Asia-Pacific dominates with approximately 35 percent global market share, positioning Gamersky’s regional expertise strategically.

Roguelike games are inspired by the 1980 classic Rogue. They feature randomly generated levels, turn-based play, permadeath, and dungeon crawling on a grid — making every run different and challenging.

In 2008, developers created the “Berlin Interpretation,” a checklist that defines what makes a true roguelike, including features like permadeath, procedural generation, and resource management. Unlike roguelikes, roguelites keep the randomness but add permanent upgrades or real-time action, making each playthrough shorter and more forgiving.

Yogscast Games established its publishing division in 2017, focusing on titles “as fun to watch as they are to play”. The company accumulated $16.6 million in total lifetime revenue across 25 published titles, with PlateUp! Generating approximately $6.2 million in net revenue, leading the portfolio.

Byron joined Yogscast Games in September 2021 as Director of Publishing, bringing significant indie-acquisition expertise after building his reputation at Curve Digital. His appointment accelerated the publisher’s focus on roguelikes, leveraging direct relationships with over 40 million YouTube subscribers and 10 million Twitch viewers.

Strategic Positioning for 2026 Releases

Both titles release during a competitive first-half 2026 window alongside major indie anticipated releases, including Slay the Spire 2’s March 2026 early access launch. However, the roguelike genre’s sustained popularity and Yogscast Games’ established content creator network provide significant discoverability advantages.

Independent game publisher trends in 2025 emphasize creative freedom, close developer collaboration, and streamable appeal, characteristics central to Yogscast Games’ operational philosophy. The company’s track record demonstrates consistent quality across varied roguelike subgenres, from cooking simulation (PlateUp!) to card-battling (Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers).

Steam wishlisting opened immediately for both titles following the November 5 announcement, with additional details promised in the coming months. The Gate Must Stand targets the first quarter of 2026 specifically, while Infinity Sweeper maintains a broader first-half 2026 window.
